About Uranpyrochlore (of Hogarth 1977)
Formula:
(Ca,U,Ce)2(Nb,Ti,Ta)2O6(OH,F)
usually is enriched by Ti, but in lesser quantities then betafites
Colour:
Red, Red-brown, chocolate-brown to black, amber-yellow
Lustre:
Adamantine, Resinous
Hardness:
4 - 5
Crystal System:
Isometric
Name:
The name reflects its uranium content and similarity to pyrochlore (Holmquist P.J., 1896).
First Recorded Locality:
A variety of Pyrochlore Group
Uranpyrochlore was previously considered to be the uranium-dominant member of the Pyrochlore group (Hogarth, 1977) but was discredited by Atencio et al. (2010) due to lack of acceptable analyses. The samples named as uranpyrochlore in previous literature are (according to the new nomenclature of the pyrochlore supergroup) U-rich oxynatropyrochlore.
Any new analyses confirming a U-dominant pyrochlore, according to 2010 nomenclature rules, will require a new name such as Oxyuranpyrochlore.
