About Oxo-magnesio-hastingsiteHide

Formula:
NaCa2(Mg3(Fe3+2-x,Tix))5(Si6Al2O22)O2
Oxo-magnesio-hastingsite is defined as an amphibole with
wO > 1 apfu
zTi<0.5 apfu , (i.e x<0.5) and
A position: Na dominant
C2+ position: Mg dominant
C3+ position: Fe dominant

The mindat formula acknowledges the important role of the M2+(OH)2 ->TiO2 substitution that are necessary to form w(O)-dominant amphiboles. The mindat formula is close to the empirical formula of the type specimen. .
Colour:

Name:
Name derived from hastingsite based on guidelines from Hawthorne et al. (2012): Nomenclature of the amphibole supergroup.
Originally IMA proposed name: Ferrikaersutite (proposal 2011-035CNMNC Newsletter No. 10, 2011), but changed to oxo-magnesiohastingsite, to be consistent with the new amphibole nomenclature (CNMNC Newsletter No. 16, 2013).
