Formula:
CsNa5Ca5[Si14B2O38]F2
Colour:
colorless
Lustre:
Vitreous
Hardness:
5
Specific Gravity:
2.80
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
The name odigitriaite is from the Greek word Oδηγήτρια (She who shows the way; Russian Cyrilic: Одигитрия - Указующая Путь), i.e. indicating extreme fractionation.
New structure type. Unique combination of elements; second Cs-Na-Ca mineral after senkevichite.
The structure is based on double-layer borosilicate sheet, with Cs and Na intercalation; double layers are connected via Ca and Na atoms.
