About Rozhdestvenskayaite-(Zn)
Formula:
Ag6(Ag4Zn2)Sb4S12S
Hardness:
3
Crystal System:
Isometric
Member of:
Name:
Originally named simply rozhdestsvenskayaite in honor of Irina Rozhdestvenskaya "in recognition of her important contributions to mineralogy, and to the crystal chemistry of the tetrahedrite group in particular". The suffix was added later by the IMA during a nomenclature revision for the tetrahedrite group.
The name is pronounced rozh-dest-ven-skayaite, with the ‘zh’ sound corresponding the sound of ‘j’ in the English word ‘major’.
The name is pronounced rozh-dest-ven-skayaite, with the ‘zh’ sound corresponding the sound of ‘j’ in the English word ‘major’.
Chemically related to argentotetrahedrite-(Fe) and "freibergite" (which are both Fe-dominant on the Fe/Zn site).
Sb-analogue of zvěstovite-(Zn).
Probably the Zn analogue of UM1992-21-S:AgFeSb.
Renamed from rozhdestsvenskayaite due to the acceptance of the IMA 18-K proposal.
