Billy Creek State Wildlife Area from Ouray County Road 4B, on 10 July 2019
Billy Creek State Wildlife Area, Eldredge, Ouray Co., Colorado, USAThe extensive Mancos Shale bluffs at the Billy Creek State Wildlife Area have occasional exposures of fractured harder rock sills containing calcite crystals of varying quality. The slopes are steep here, the footing is loose, and on the day this picture was taken it was 95° F. in the shade. With some perseverance, however, decent specimens may occasionally be found.
