HPQ-F82Barnesite (Na,Ca)V6O16·3H2O
Cactus Rat Mine, The Poison Strip, Thompsons Mining District, Grand County, Utah, USAField of View: 1.7 mm
The small mine near the Cactus Rat, or "Under-the-Road" mine produced many fine samples of barnesite. Collected by and photo, Chuck Adan.
A56-WAJUranophane Ca(UO2)2(SiO3OH)2·5H2O
Mammoth Mine, Presidio County, Texas, USAField of View: 16 mm
A beautiful uranophane cluster from what I believe is the Mammoth Mine. The specimen is ex-Gene Reynolds and the label that Dave Bunk made up says Mayfield Prospect, near Valentine, Jeff Davis Co., Texas. However, the Mayfield Prospect shows no Uranium whatsoever, at least on Mindat. The Mammoth Mine is only about 20 miles south of the Mayfield Prospect. The Mayfield prospect is also about 30 miles south of the Van Horn-Allamoore Mining District which has reported uranophane. The look of the matrix with this particular mineral, uranophane, fits the Mammoth Mine closest, so this is where I put it. If someone has a good understanding of the Mayfield Prospect, I am happy to hear and make adjustments. Specimen and photo, Chuck Adan.
7MX-VJWKrennerite Au3AgTe8
Săcărâmb, Certeju de Sus, Hunedoara County, RomaniaField of View: 4.9 mm
Krennerite on a sample from Ian Bruce. Specimen and photo, Chuck Adan.
H9W-78NMontroydite HgO
Red Bird Mine, Shoshone Creek Canyon, Wild Horse Mining District, Churchill County, Nevada, USAField of View: 5.2 mm
Red montroydite on the giveaway table at the 2024 PMC in Fallbrook. This is an ex-Michael Moore sample, who also collected it. There is no analysis that I am aware of. Specimen and photo, Chuck Adan.
DWK-C0XEglestonite [Hg2]2+3OCl3(OH) , Corderoite Hg2+3S2Cl2 , Goethite α-Fe3+O(OH)
McDermitt Mine, Opalite Mining District, Humboldt County, Nevada, USAField of View: 1.14 mm
A modified, vitreous, medium brown corderoite crystal sits atop some massive, yellow eglestonite. Darker brown goethite coat some of the eglestonite and form tiny spheres on the enclosing quartz matrix. This sample is from a study by Michael Cox, Ted Hadley, and Gail Dunning of the McDermitt mine area and the unknown minerals there. It was obtained from the January 2024 PMC (Pacific Micromount Conference) sponsored yearly by the MSSC (The Mineralogical Society of Southern California). The photo is by Michael Cox with a Keyence VHX-970 digital microscope with a VH-Z100T objective. Chuck Adan specimen.
CE6-QYHBluebellite Cu6[(I5+O3)(OH)3](OH)7Cl , Murdochite Cu12Pb2O15Cl2
Blue Bell Mine, Zzyzx, Soda Mountains, Silver Lake Mining District, San Bernardino County, California, USAField of View: 0.84 mm
This specimen was obtained from the January 2024 PMC (Pacific Micromount Conference) sponsored yearly by the MSSC (The Mineralogical Society of Southern California). The original material for the species came from John Jenkins who collected it. This material was given to Bob Reynolds who gave it to Bob Housley for analysis. This particular piece was in Bob Reynold's personal collection. The blue-green bluebellite crystals are in a lamellar habit among murdochite cubes. In association, but not seen in photo are a couple tiny dioptase crystals. Photo by Michael Cox with a Keyence VHX-970 digital microscope with a VH-Z100T objective. Chuck Adan specimen.
G0C-GJUPyrargyrite Ag3SbS3
San Genaro Mine, Castrovirreyna mining district, Castrovirreyna District, Castrovirreyna Province, Huancavelica, PeruField of View: 2.2 mm
A prismatic silvery pyrargyrite crystal stands up next to some blockier reddish examples of the same species. Specimen and photo, Chuck Adan.
