Group of vertical shafts

Wadi Faynan, Tafilah, Jordan

Deepest shaft is about 30 meters, with horizontal drifts at the bottom. Two on the left are Bronze Age, one on the right is Roman. Only the central shaft has rough handholds for climbing, suggesting that was for entrance and the others were haulways.

One of several adits

Wadi Faynan, Tafilah, Jordan

Tunnel entrance in early 2014. The area was active during Paleolithic, Middle Bronze Age & Roman periods; this particular adit goes back about 50 meters.
