GTY-0A0Calcite

Cap Blanc-Nez, Escalles, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France

Dimensions: 95 mm x 65 mm x 45 mm
Weight: 300 g

Despite the imposing mass of calcium carbonate that constitutes the cliffs of "Cap Blanc Nez", crystallized calcite is very unusual on the site. Only a few narrow veins, traversing the chalky plateau sometimes provide the opportunity to collect meager samples. The crystals are rare and always eroded by the leaching of the waves, moving abrasive sediments. Good Fluorescence specimen with UVL

GY3-NXNBariopharmacoalumite

Cap Garonne Mine, Le Pradet, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Field of View: 3 mm

Prismatic crystals with square base correspond to bariopharmacoalumite. It is the polytype Q2a2B2c whose crystal structure has been studied and the publication made in 2014. This atypical form of crystals results from an atomic arrangement including barium, zinc and copper: Ba 0.5 (Cu, Zn) 0.1 H 0.6 [Al4 (OH) 4 (As 0.9 Al 0.1 O 4) 3] · 5.5 H2O).
The complete sample measures 115 x 85mm; it is mineralized on two sides.
On the most interesting face the bariopharmacoalumite covering several cm² is associated with scorodite, mansfieldite and small masses of greenish beads (to be analyzed...) .
The other side includes the following species azurite + olivenite + cornwallite + Malachite and a little barite covered by iron oxides.

The exact provenance of the specimen is uncertain because I bought it at Ste Marie at the mines at the end of June 2018 (sold as azurite!). The species studied came from the southern works of the Cap Garonne mine.
