XUH-DN5Columbite-(Fe)

Bordonaro Quarry, Portland, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

Field of View: 25 mm

This one I did not have to trim, it was sitting on the dumps. It turned out to be the largest columbite find of the day. There also appears to be a uranophane-like mineral replacing uraninite in the lower right part of the specimen.

Rough, but big and thick crystal book of mica from the large upper trench visible in 2018.

FM1-H1VMicrocline

Bordonaro Quarry, Portland, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

Dimensions: 6 cm x 4 cm x 2.5 cm

This was unexpected. You don't typically find nicely terminated, parallel growth, microcline crystals in central CT pegmatite dumps. This came out right after I found the one sharp gemmy Beryl crystal. So I think I found a pretty good spot in the dump!

Q8Y-UQMBeryl, Microcline, Muscovite

Bordonaro Quarry, Portland, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

Dimensions: 10 cm x 7 cm x 7 cm
Largest Crystal Size: 4 cm

This was another beryl broken out of a large pegmatite/schist contact specimen found in the lower dumps.

9JV-J5RBeryl, Microcline, Quartz, Muscovite

Bordonaro Quarry, Portland, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

I found this in the lower dumps in a large contact specimen between the pegmatite and the country rock schist.

Dimensions: 18 cm x 11 cm x 2 cm

There were a still a few larger books of mica from the upper dump "stockpile."

GT3-XHJSchorl, Garnet Group, Muscovite, Microcline

Gotta-Walden Prospect, Portland, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

Dimensions: 15 cm x 9.5 cm x 8 cm
Largest Crystal Size: 7.5 cm

I didn't a lot of schorl superficially on the dumps, but this large specimen was hard to miss. There seems to be partial replacement by muscovite throughout the crystals and it is liberally sprinkled with micro garnet group crystals.
