I began collecting minerals on the dumps at Mt. Mica,Maine at the age of 8, which was the start of a lifetime of love for minerals and the entire field of geology. I majored in geology at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York, and received a B.S. in 1952 and M.S. in 1954, both in geology. While at Syracuse, I taught the basic mineralogy lab courses under the tutelage of Dr. Newton E. Chute. Although I have purchased specimens on rare occasions, I am primarily a field collector, and have collected extensively in the New England states (USA), during my residence in Connecticut, and more recently in Washington state and Oregon, where I now reside. All of the photos of specimens shown on my home page were self-collected, except museum displays.
