I have been a mineral collector for over 50 years having started out as a rockhound at 5 years old or so with my dad and uncle. In junior high school I started getting interested in minerals and thus preceded to get a degree in Geology at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1975. For the next couple of years I worked part time until I could save up some money and then went on month long or so collecting trips in the Western United States. In the fall of 1978 I went back to Grad School at the University of California Santa Barbara where I got my M.S. and Ph.D. in mineralogy, working with William Wise. My M.S. thesis was the description of the new mineral Okanoganite-(Y) and my Ph.D. dissertation was on the Mineralogy and Geochemistry of the Golden Horn Batholith in the North Cascades of Washington State. I then taught geology and mineralogy at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington for 13 years. I have been a part to full time dealer since 1976 under the name of The Crystal Lined Pocket. I have an large personal collection with many self collected specimens from primarily the Western United States.
