Alltycrib Mine, Tal-y-bont, Ceulanymaesmawr, Ceredigion, Wales, UK
A solid piece of galena. Galena is widely found around the site often with chalcopyrite. July, 2020.
Thin crystals of cerussite in a cavity in quartz with patchy green malachite (?) and orange limonite. (Deep in the cavity there are small balls of malachite.)
Off white, greyish calcite. Grid is 1cm. Collected July 2020
Reproduced from Old Maps UK under the not for commercial reuse permission. The map does not really show the extent of the shafts and open works along the north-western boundary of the woodland.
Referencing the Ordnance Survey map this is the tip in the centre of the woodland just left of the 'Y' in Allt-y-Grib (note map spelling). The tip was quite productive for lead and copper minerals. July, 2020. (And yes it was raining just a bit!)
This large tip can be seen across th efield and accessed from the footpath. It produced small amounts of galena, but little else. July, 2020.
Approaching from Tal-y-bont along the bridle way the tips are seen off to the right through the rain. July 2020
Referencing the Ordnance Survey map this is part of the tip in the centre of the woodland just left of the 'Y' in Allt-y-Grib (note map spelling). The tip has been dug into by people making a cycle circuit and was quite productive for lead minerals. July, 2020.
This small tip beside the track contained plenty of cerussite but only very poor quality, but little else. July, 2020.
