From an exciting new find: pistachio green pseudomorphs of epidote replacing orthoclase crystals! This specimen features a sharp replacement of a Carlsbad law twinned orthoclase. There is some chipping, including on the front corner and on the upper left corner in the reverse, as well as some pitting caused by incomplete replacement. While this type of alteration is not unusual, we are unaware of any other worldwide locality that has produced large, euhedral pseudomorphs like these. Collected by Phil Simmons and Erin Delventhal in November of 2020. XRD analysis of this material has pointed towards an undetermined range within the epidote-clinozoisite solution series, as well as the presence of orthoclase, sanidine, and adularia in samples that were not replaced.
