Where the Carbonatites Are Found
Lemitar carbonatites, Lemitar Mountains, Socorro County, New Mexico, USA
Precambrian metasediments as well as intrusive rocks host Ordovician carbonatites. The area is a rugged part of the Chihuahuan Desert, an ecoregion that includes sparse grasses, creosote, juniper, and cacti such as cholla growing among the outcrops.
