Malayaite, Andradite

Ash Mountain, Tuya Range, Atlin Mining Division, British Columbia, Canada

The sample is 5 cm x 4 cm. The euhedral tan coloured Malayaite crystals occur in the interstacies of the Andradite crystals. One is located by the arrow. The Malayaite crystals fluoresce so strongly in SW UV that even the smallest crystals are identifiable. Brad Wilson told me in 1993 that he collected these for their green Andradite and it was ...

This small vug was collected by Brad Wilson of Kingston, Ontario from whom I obtained it in an exchange. The malayaite is a small crystal in the corner of the vug.

Malayaite

Ash Mountain, Tuya Range, Atlin Mining Division, British Columbia, Canada

Little vug filled with malayaite crystals. Fluorescent bright green under shortwave UV light, and an interesting dark orange under longwave, better with a 405nm blue laser. The green shortwave fluorescence seems typical in malayaite, the orange longwave not so much. Shortwave fluorescence.
