5.8 x 5.3 x 4.8 cm. Alpersite is a rare post-mining hydrated Mg-Cu sulfate approved in 2003 and is a member of the Melanterite Group. This very lightweight, pretty baby-blue specimen looks like a blue sponge and is from the Type Locality in Nevada. Weighs only 35 grams.

Pale blue alpersite richly comprising matrix, associated with white pickeringite and often epsomite and/or alunogen (not evident in image). Material was XRD-confirmed by the author, and various shades of pale blue to slightly greenish material were also confirmed as alpersite+pickeringite.

Tiny, pale blue, glassy crystals and crystalline masses of alpersite, partially coated by / altered to a white sulphate, presumably as a result of dehydration. Purchased from Roberto Bracco in 2018. Stack of 69 images.
