Titanite crystal altered to brookitre with minor anatase at the lower left. The titanite is on dark green clinochlore and associated with quartz. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
Rutile spray on clinochlore. Doug Merson photo and collection, self collected.
Milky hexagonal prism of fluorapatite with two smaller crystals attached. Found on dark green clinochlore and associated with quartz. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
Several quartz crystals with dark green clinochlore. Doug Mereson photo and collectioin, self collected.
Yellow titanite crystal with brookite crystals in background. Doug Merson photo and collection, self collected.
Elestial Scepter Quartz Crystal Regrowth This is like having a baby so ugly that it's cute. This crystal was a part of a landslide causing tremendous damage. It's healed itself beautifully as an elestial scepter.
Anatase crystal below spray of rutile. Doug Mersoh photo and collection, self collected.
Pale yellow anatase crystal in the remains of a titanite crystal. The angle this was photographed at distorts the tetragonal symmetry of the crystal, it is obvious under the microscope. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
Group of milky to clear fluorapatite crystals on dark green clinochlore just below center. There are a couple more just left of center at upper edge of image. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.

Pale orange brookite with anatase behind it in the cavity. There is a second anatase toward upper left of image. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
This is a surface mine specimen of mostly broken quartz points. There are four terminated quartz crystals that survived the land slide in which rubble I found this piece in.
Yellow titanite crystal on dark green clinochlore with quartz. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
Rutile on dark green clinochlore. From an adjacent area ti the anatase. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
An assortment of terminated quartz points from among the trees under, what I believe to be the spruce claim boundaries.
My largest quartz crystal of the 2015 rock hounding season. Came out of the trees diggings from Hansen creek; east of North Bend, WA. What this photo does not show very well is that the fractured end has healed and re-terminated 26 times (last count).
Double Terminated Quartz Crystal with Cap and Phantom Double terminated crystal that stopped growth and reinitiated growth producing a nice phantom with a cap. This could be a type of twinning, but simply appears to be a growth feature and not a twinning feature.
Sceptre Quartz Quartz Crystal with short sceptre stem. A few small chlorite grains are found throughout. Typical Hansen Creek Crystal Area quartz crystal condition. This area is a major slide area and much of the material in the lower public area is broken or severely etched. Most are also severely iron stained and a cleaning in hot oxalic ...
Quartz var. Rock Crystal with chlorite inclusions and tremolite/actinolite needles Quartz crystal containing grainy chlorite inclusions and green needles of actinolite-tremolite. Many Hansen Creek crystals exhibit a variety of inclusions with chlorite grains being the most common. Typical Hansen Creek Crystal Area quartz crystal condition. ...
Double-terminated Quartz with phantom Typical Hansen Creek Crystal Area quartz crystal condition. This area is a major slide area and much of the material in the lower public area is broken or severely etched. Most are also severely iron stained and a cleaning in hot oxalic acid seems to be the best cleaning method.
Orange brookite on green clinochlore. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
This Quartz sceptre var. amethyst was found in the public collecting area. Self collected.
Several sprays of rutile around a light orange brookite crystal. Just above and slightly to the right of the brookite are 2 orange anatase crystals. Around the base of the brookite and above slightly to the left are the colorless remains of the precursor titanite. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.

Interpentration Quartz Crystal Double terminated crystal with small interpenetration crystal tip on the side. No inclusions noted but there is a slight phantom on the larger end that does not show in the photo. The etched condition of this specimen is possibly due, in part, to the twinning. Typical Hansen Creek Crystal Area quartz crystal ...
Group of light yellow anatase crystals on green clinochlore and quartz. Photographed by and in the collection of Douglas Merson.
Quartz Crystal Quartz crystal with normal striations on 3 faces and weird etched growths on the opposite 3 faces. Typical Hansen Creek Crystal Area quartz crystal condition.
