Very nice matrix specimen consisting of brownish lustrous smoky quartzes with cream white k-feldspar crystals, topped by striking pink "mini-mushrooms" of rubellite and some whitish albite. Width of specimen is ca 15 cm. Those pegmatite matrix specimens are hard to find in this quality. My collection, acquired in Munich 2006.

A translucent, lustrous, dark raspberrry-red, trigonal tourmaline crystal with a schorl core from the recent finds at Mogok, Burma. These "mushroom" shaped tourmalines are some of the most unusual tourmalines ever found and they are much sought after. 3.2 x 3.2 x 2.7 cm

Mushroom tourmaline with bi-directional growth of last generation. The latest research (Sugiyama et al. 2016) has found out that the pinkish parts are actually darrelhenryite. In my opinion this is the best small sample from the find. The sphere is large and has lots of color and brilliance. It is also well placed on the matrix of Calcite with some Quartz at the base. 2.2 x 1.9 x .8 cm. This is really quite an amazing Elbaite. The crystal consists of a lustrous and gemmy raspberry red Elbaite overgrowth on a schorl core. The form and aesthetics of the overall piece are incredible, as if it was something out of an enchanted forest. Ex. Wendell E. Wilson Collection.

A raspberry-red, trigonal, mushroom-like crystal, 3 cm high, projecting from the side of a flat plate of partially formed quartz crystals. At the base of the tourmaline is exposed a discrete black core.

This specimen hosts some of the most vivid red, lustrous, beautiful tourmalines I have yet seen from Burma for the style ("mushrooms"). They really ARE this juicy, in person. Maybe more so. A gorgeous, robust, intense red rubellite cap around a schorl stalk makes this a very fine example of this rare habit from Mogok. I traded for it at the Munich 2009 show. The color is superb for the material. A most unusual tourmaline style.
