The baryte xl on the right is ~ 1⅓ mm tall. Found in the fall of 1992. MOB coll. Typical “chisel” terminated habit. Per Dana, the tips of the “chisels” are actually “m” prism faces (110) whereas the chisel itself is the “d” macrodome (102). Associated with very small hexagonal calcite “barrels” in a tiny cavity in a very large mass of small intergrown pyrite xls. (The calcite xls are on the left edge of the cavity. See http://www.mindat.org/photo-433985.html for a better example of slightly larger xls.) NOT “the greatest barite ever found”. But it IS the only barite I ever found at Limecrest – and the only one documented so far (Dec 2011) on Mindat. The stuff may be more common. Nobody really looks for micros at Limecrest and the pyrite mass it was found in didn’t have too much to recommend it as a specimen in its own right. (Plus it weighed at least 50-100 pounds and was almost impossible to break. See http://www.mindat.org/photo-433989.html for a very small sample.) There is a stereo child photo that helps to bring out the barite habit more clearly.
