Description | The Grup Mineralògic Català (Catalan Mineralogical Group, GMC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1975 by a group of mineral collecting and mineralogy enthusiasts. The main objective of the GMC is to study and make known the mineralogy and mining heritage of our country and, with this objective, it publishes the magazine "Mineralogistes de Catalunya" (also in Spanish, "Paragénesis"). This biannual magazine publishes articles referring to mineralogy from anywhere in the world, but with special attention to the mineralogy of Catalonia and Spain. Infominer, the bulletin for Grup members, is also published online, with mineralogical news, deposit and mines reviews and information on GMC activities, among other topics. The GMC organizes mineral shows: Mineralexpo Barcelona-Sants (in March and November) and Mineralexpo Sant Celoni (in May), the latter being the oldest mineral show in Spain. During these fairs, exhibitions, conferences and introductory workshops in the world of minerals are held, aimed especially at the youngest but open to anyone interested. |
