PhotosActinolite - Canada Marble and Lime Quarry, L'Annonciation, Antoine-Labelle RCM, Marchand Township, Laurentides, Québec, Canada

Looks like regular pristine diopside. What was the basis for the identification of actinolite?

The dealer I got it from stated it is Actinolite ps after Diopside (Uralite). Also the locality specified on the label is "Comet mine, Lac Saint Antoine, Cantley, Quebec, Canada" which minID replaced it with "Canada Marble and Lime Quarry, L'Annonciation, Antoine-Labelle RCM, Marchand Township, Laurentides, Québec, Canada".

So what is it?

18th Aug 2014 12:56 UTCPhil M. Belley Expert

Hi Marc, it is typical Comet mine material from the easternmost pit -- the label is correct.

Some Comet material has weak alteration to amphibole on the exterior. This has none. Diopside all the way.

Please pay good attention to what localities you attribute to specimens. Mindat only gives suggestions that are listed in the database that it tries to match with what you write. Comet mine would go under http://www.mindat.org/loc-6868.html

Rob: This locality http://www.mindat.org/loc-244515.html should be under Wakefield, not Cantley. http://www.mindat.org/loc-220291.html

Thanks for the info Phil, my records have been updated - the mod who suspended access to my account can change the information on minID themselves.

Thanks Phil. I created http://www.mindat.org/loc-259969.html for the Comet Mine and moved the Roadcut to Wakefield http://www.mindat.org/loc-244515.html

Marc,

i fixed your photo. Even after clearing the cache, the photo doesn't show up on the mine page, but does if you click on the "i" beside diopside.
