Identity HelpAkermanite from Biachella valley?

21st Nov 2011 23:13 UTCVik Vanrusselt Expert

Hello all,

I think I've asked this question here before, but I can't find the post anymore.

Anyway, do any of you know if Akermanite has ever been confirmed from the Biachella valley?

Apparently, it's 'companion' Gehlenite has.

By the way, if I go to the Gehlenite entry, it says "Gehlenite-Åkermanite Series".

If I click that, I end up at "Åkermanite-Gehlenite Series".

Which of these is the actual "end-member"?

Thanks,

Vik

Vik, a series needs 2 end-members, and it's still the same series whichever way round you write them.

Cheers,

Alfredo

Alfredo,

Sorry I hadn't thought this all the way through before I posted this, I actually knew that.

What about the first question though, about the Akermanite at Biachella, any ideas?

Thanks

Vik

Specimens from the Sacrofano caldera thus from Valle Biachella are usually referred by collectors to gehlenite but indeed they must properly be classified ad a solid solution between the two end members of the series.
