This is what seems to be a chunk from a larger chunk which I broke down. It seems to have bugs of unknown crystals with some shell imprints. It came from a bypass canal in Florida. Also seems to be covered in lichen any suggestions on how to clean it?

Your specimen might well be a limestone with a few invertebrate fossil impressions. I believe it has very little value so cleaning it is more an experimental exercise than anything like making it look appreciably better and enhancing any value. I might leave it as is.

However if you must clean it, soak it in soapy water with a little bleach for an hour or so, then rinse it thoroughly and let it dry in the sun for several days. If the limestone happens to be porous the greenish organics might be removed. CHEERS.....BOB
