I recently picked up a specimen of Agate and Amethyst on Ebay. The label with it is in German. I'm trying to determine whether this specimen is from Vosges, Lorraine, France or from some locality in Germany. Since there are a lot of German collectors in Mindat, I'm hoping one of them will see this and help me out.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I can make out it say's Agate with a layer of Amethyst quartz, plus that it has been cut and polished, plus where it was found...

Steve,

There are Lots of images on the web of these Amethyst & Agate specimens from Vosges, Lorraine region in eastern France. http://www.mindat.org/loc-122560.html

A link to a few on Mineralienatlas (a good resource of reference for "local flavor" european occurrences). We are sadly lacking any specimen examples from this occurrence on mindat (hint, hint Steve).

The label reads: Agate with layers of Amethyst Quartz, grinded

Schlüsselstein (seems to be a mountain) near Bergheim in Alsace, Vosges

which is this locality:

Thanks for all the replies. I will get this photo uploaded to Mindat first thing Monday. We are off tomorrow for the Dallas Mineral Collectors Symposium over the weekend. Will finally get to see the Arkenstone Gallery and the Perot Museum of Natural Science.

All the best,

Steve Blyskal
