GeneralSabina's guide books issue

29th Sep 2015 13:45 UTCMatt Courville

Hello, I've come across two of the same documents relating to Quebec, Canada mineral collecting issued at different times with inconsistencies.

Ann P. Sabina - 'Rocks and Minerals for the Collector'

1) 1970 (reprinted upto 1984) listed as 'paper 69-50'

2) 1987 listed as 'Report 41' (in french)

The very first locality map titled 'Map 1' seems to have the mine orders mixed-up. An example would be the positioning of the Laurentide mine. If anyone is familiar with the mix-up and might know which one is the more correct version of the map it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Matt,

Just viewed both documents...

The maps entitled Map 1 in both documents are not for the same area... One shows the Kingston, On. localities, while the other is about Chelsea, Qc.

Perhaps the editor simply decided to put in a different map in the revised 1987 edition, and further to new info since the initial one, there might be other minor discrepancies throughout the documents.

It should, in my opinion, have been re-revised before the latest reprint (2005) because many mines were bulldozed at the beginning of the nineties, and are now barely visible, alas !

Hi Jean-Yves,

It seems to be even more odd than I had thought. Both documents I have definitely have the same Map 1 of 'Old Chelsea Gatineau parkway'. The old 1970(revised to 1984) matches the English version of the 1987, but the French version of 1987 is off-set in the mine list.

There is no Kingston map. Perhaps the french map got mixed-up in the translation?

The odd one can be found by 'googling' this below to find the PDF:

Are they following the politicians at election time? One message in Quebec another in the rest of Canada?

Well not too many ideas, so I will settle on the assumption that the french version of the document was the one that is flawed since it is not the original and that the other two are matching.

Laszlo, as much as I am tempted to comment on the politics (being from Ottawa and it's election time) I will try to behave myself......;-):)-D
