Improving Mindat.orgFor the love of god! Will you fix the Ballycummisk ''I'' section!!!!!!!!!

13th Jul 2005 18:23 UTCBarry Flannery

I have been complaining of this for a few months now and there is no action being undertaken to fix the Ballycummisk ''I'' thing beside the minerals and the ''Pending Approval cannot be saved..'' has been up for them for over 3 months and I can't update them and they are not even showing up when you press the ''I''. PLEASE! PLEASE!!! Fix this!.

Barry, since you were ten years old, I have been waiting for Jolyon to unfreeze the Van Silver, Silver tunnel entry so I can remove the species Aragonite which does not occur there!!! I hope you live long enough to see Ballycummisk unfrozen.

By the way what does the prefix "Bally" mean in Irish???

Barry

I have been complaining of this for a few months now and there is no action being undertaken to fix the Arsenopyrites from ''Ireland'' thing. PLEASE! PLEASE!!! Fix this!.

Ps. I've found out the problem tonight and fixed it. Van Silver and Ballycumminsk are both free for editing, as are all other localities that were affected.

The problem was due to a failure to properly moderate changes by level1 users to existing mineral locality entries.

A "definition" from www.wesleyjohnston.com:

Bally is an extremely common prefix to town names in Ireland, and is derived from the Gaelic phrase 'Baile na', meaning 'place of'. It is not quite right to translate it 'town of', as there were few, if any, towns in Ireland at the time these names were formed. For example, Ballyjamesduff (county Cavan), Ballymoney (county Londonderry). The Irish name for the site of present-day Dublin was 'Baile Átha Cliath', which, if anglicised, would be spelt something like 'Ballycleeagh'.

This was a problem I'd looked at several times before and couldn't figure out. In the end I was just luckier this time that I was able to spot the problem reasonably quickly!
