Improving Mindat.orgMultiple entries for Las Delicias Mine in Baja

31st Jul 2014 16:48 UTCCurtis Wilbur Expert

The following locality entries for Delicias Mine appear to be the same site:

Delicias Mine, El Socorro, Mun. de Ensenada, Baja California (Baja California Norte; BC Norte), Mexico (10535)

Delicias Mine, Rancho Viejo, Mun. de Tecáte, Baja California (Baja California Norte; BC Norte), Mexico (10538)

There are other entries for Delicias Mine, which are likely to be duplicate entries as well:

Delicias Mine, El Rodeo, Baja California (Baja California Norte; BC Norte), Mexico (10534)

Delicias Mine, Los Pocitos, Arroyo de Rincón, Rancho Viejo, Mun. de Ensenada, Baja California (Baja California Norte; BC Norte), Mexico (10536)

I think the best choice would be to attempt to consolidate the entries around 10535, as it is the one entry that has been accurately located. This information is based on personal communications with Bill Larson, who is familar with the site.

I believe the mineral photos are correct to consolidate - they all appear to come from the same mine.

Further research: It appears that the "Mun. de Tecate" reference is incorrect. The Delicias Mine lies within Mun. de Ensenada. Also, the reference to "Rancho Viejo" should be updated to "Rancho Los Pocitos". From that, it appears that entry 10536 is the most correct. And the El Socorro Mine entry should also be updated. Both these mines have been accurately placed geographically. Rancho Los Pocitos has a Lat/Long of 31°34'60" N 115°52'1" W, placing it within reasonable range of the two mines, and well within the confines of Mun de Ensenada.

Thanks, Curtis. Corrected now, I think. Let us know if you find anything else to correct in Baja California.

Looks good Alfredo! Thanks! I'm carefully documenting every Baja specimen I collect, and I appreciate you're helping me with locality issues.
