LocalitiesUpper Hunza Valley, Hunza District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan

I recently purchased a "spinel" in a marble matrix, from the Hunza Valley. I have noticed 2 things about it. First of all, there are 2 small yellow spots on the marble. Through the microscope at my max of 40x, I can see very tiny radiating crystals. But they are too small to make out any shape. Any idea what they might be. Second, my "spinel" has a very strong red fluorescence. Does spinel do that or did I actually get a mis-marked ruby?

Spinel can indeed exhibit a strong red fluorescence. As for the yellow radiating microcrystals, I'd hesitate to even guess without either a photo under high magnification, or a microprobe analysis, or preferably both(!), but perhaps an amphibole or tourmaline or something completely different... impossible to say (unless by good luck someone else has already seen something similar from there before and analyzed it).

Thanks Alfredo!!
