Minerals and MuseumsMineral Museum/Collections in Barcelona?
18th Sep 2014 00:02 UTCAnonymous User
I am heading to Barcelona for a conference and have a bit of time to do some tourist activities. I have read about the famous Folch mineral collection but it seems as this is a private collection and not available for viewing. I looked up the website for the Blau Museum which is the Natural History Museum and do not see reference to a mineral collection on display. Any one have any info on where to check out some rocks in Barcelona? Also I am heading to the Pyrenees mountains around Andora for some trout fishing and am wondering if there is any interesting minerals/geology around there.
Thanks,
Thomas

You should probably make contact with Jordi Fabre in Barcelona.

There is also a small mineral shop, again near La Rambla near the cathedral, and the website:

Good luck!
Thomas, Barcelona is a wonderful city to visit - by all means, take the hop-on, hop-off bus tour if you can. I will give you serious advice - Barcelona is notorious for pick-pockets (although violent crime is rare and the city is safe)...this is especially true on the metro system, La Rambla, and any other crowded place. The pick-pockets are expert at distracting you (even with cute dogs, etc.) and it only takes a second. Leave your passport in a hotel safe, and carry only the cash/cards you need for each excursion. Don't use a backpack if you can avoid it, and keep your eyes open every minute on the metro. I cannot emphasize this enough. You'll have lots of fun and meet wonderful, friendly people, but watch your pockets and anything you carry.
