26th May 2010 01:36 UTCAndrew Brodeur

Hi all....June is almost here, and that means Gilsum!!!! The Gilsum Rock Swap is June 26th & 27th in Gilsum NH. looking forward to seeing all our Mindat friends up there again this year.... show yourselves, you know who you are!

Andy

28th May 2010 12:03 UTCDon Kauffman

Hey Andrew! And all our Mindat friends,

Linda and I will be set up as usual. Our 11th year on the field at beautiful, friendly Gilsum. Hope to greet all of our New England Mindat friends.

Have a safe drive to the show.

Don

30th May 2010 02:44 UTCRobert MItchell

We're getting ready up here for the show - should be fun!

This year the Gilsum Congregational Church is once again putting on the dinner. My wife Jan is coordinating, making more than 100 calls for home made beans and pies.

Folks have said they miss having it at the church so we're going to give that a try this year - unless it rains. In that case we'll hold it up in the school cafeteria.

BTW, y'all know who our speaker is this year?

We call him the "wild man." Here's a link to the photo and bio...

Come on Mindaters! Andrew, Jim and Rob are awake (clearly showing they survived the winter). The rest of you are a little slow to respond. Gilsum is the greatest little show in New England!

WE want to hear from more of you! Steve wants a full house for his presentation!

Let's get the rockhounds rolling to Gilsum!

I got my first taste of Gilsum last year and had an absolute blast!!! If you haven't been there yet, you're missing a true New England gem!. I wrote a little article on my weekend experience as it gave me a little more in site to the dealer side of the table and you just can't beat the company up there!

Wayne's video of Gilsum 2009 is highly recommended. Even if you have been there.

Also, even though it may be on another topic, check out his videos on mining operations and collecting with Jim Tovey.

If you want to learn a lot about mining and collecting gem beryl, follow Wayne's videos of Wise, Tripp and other locations on his website, Idigrocks.com

His video documentaries are fascinating!

Dear Rob;

YOU finally posted here? WOW! As for the change of location for the dinner, that's just awesome! Have the banana cream pies handy! LOL. Just a quick question: have much AFTER the dinner, will the talk take place? I've got to get back up that hill; it'll take me a while to roll up the hill, sideways, if I'm at the last sitting. Let me know about that!

Your friend, Steve

PS Louise, you WILL get the promised diamond, that you can hold in your hands, this yr! Be ready (-ware)!

4th Jun 2010 17:24 UTCPaul Young

I'll be there Saturday to see my old, long time friend, legend in his own mind...Steve Garza.

Looking forward to seeing you Steve.

Only 2 weeks until Gilsum. Wayne and i got all pumped up yesterday on the way to the mine when we saw all the Rock Swap signs out already. Great Job For the show staff on getting the word out. I have a lot of great stuff for the silent auction this year, great specimens, old publications, mineral storage and even a Lortone tumbler with everything you need to get started for tumbling. Stop by and say hi to us.

I am planning to attend Gilsum on Sunday. So could you guys arrange it so the one good day of weather next weekend is Sunday! It would make life a lot easier for me. Of course I will miss the dinner so there will be enough pie for 4 or 5 more people.

Any one remember the year we goated Wil into climbing in an open window to save us a good table? RIP my good friend!

21st Jun 2010 12:29 UTCDon Kauffman

Tom,

Good to hear you are going to make it on Sunday. Not so many responses on Message Board this year for Gilsum but I guess a lot of people are still getting ready or making plans. Been quite busy here getting new material together. A lot of plates from Mt. Pleasant Mills.

Also acquired some nice French Creek material.

Advance weather forcast looks favorable. At least until Sunday afternoon. (May have the usual "pop up" thunderstorm).

Linda isn't gimping around this year. Appears to be back to herself. We haven't scheduled any collecting trips until AFTER Gilsum. (May slip one in while in the area prior to the show. We'll be "real" careful.)

Yes, who can ever go to our Saturday evening bash and not remember our friend Wil. We'll miss you there on Saturday evening. I'll eat a slice of pie for you.

Have a safe trip.

Look us up, at the usual space.

Only 4 days until set up day. I can't wait. Spent several hours yesterday getting specimens ready for our silent auction. I don't know what we were thinking but we have some great material that will be going into the auction. Wayne and i collected a couple really really nice ones on Saturday that will be going in. If you are looking for local material we will have it in the auction, in fact thats how we are going to start moving most of the Tripp Mine specimens will be in the silent auction. All bidding starts at $1.00 and i gave away a lot of great specimens for just that last year. Please stop by and say hello.

Nancy (Koskie) Millard won't be with us this year due to illness in her family. If you don't know her you may remember her presentation two years ago. On the plus side, we have quite a few new and enthusiastic dealer/swappers coming in this year.

See you this weekend!

Dear Rob;

That was LAST yr! I know bcs she spent the 1st 10 min. embarassing me, by mentioning I started her out, in this. Sorry to hear that about her, as I've people to intro to her; I may have someone from IN coming, to help me even MORE! I'm goingg to have more help than I've ever had; that means I'll actually have "walkabout" time, for the first time in YEARS!

I can't wait to see everyone, MD or not, again; I live for this show - it keeps me sane OK, so I mean "saner" than my baseline!).

Steve,

I'm with you on the living for Gilsum. It is now my favorite show to do and you can't ask for a better outdoor venue, in fact it is better than some of the indoor shows. Gilsum is now a must attend show if you live in the northeast. If you have free time stop by the Toveco booth for some pie.

Just got back home from Gilsum. 2 days of happy hunting.....yeah!!!!!!! :) picked up some nice specimens for my rock room and met some of my

mindat buddies in person. I had the best time yet even though got rained on a couple of times but of course it's not Gilsum without at least one rain shower and I figure I won't melt anyways so didn't care. The pies were delicious as always..Thank you to the families of Gilsum NH for that!!

Even got an advanced anniversary present from hubby..a nice aquamarine from the Tripp Mine through Jim Tovey's booth. Thanks to Steve Garza for his talk on Saturday and for his advice on some sites I could look up in my local area..Thanks bunches. Saw Andy Brodeur and Don Kaufman too..Just had a great time. For all you who missed it you missed alot of nice stuff!! Maybe next year!!
