Techniques for CollectorsCleaning dust from Lazulite

29th Oct 2016 22:00 UTCBootboot

Hello everyone! I was just wondering the best way to clean dust off of Lazulite. I was showing it to a friend and forgot to put it back in storage, and a small amount of dust decided to settle on it. Would some water and canned air be ok?

Anything is OK. Water jet. Dishwashing detergent. Compressed air..... whatever. It's pretty tough stuff.

But don't forget to check if there may be other, more fragile minerals on the specimen.

If it were my specimen (and I wouldn't mind if it were!), I'd simply give a couple of swishes in clean water and a qiuck dip in a wetting agent (like whatever you use in a dishwasher to be rid of spots - a few drops in a quart of water would do the trick).

I've cleaned many of these specimens in an ultrasonic cleaner without issues.
