Field CollectingCaldbeck Fells Collecting Help

5th Oct 2013 09:03 UTCMatt Wall

Hi Everyone,

I have just got my permit back that allows me to go collecting in the "green zones" in the Caldbeck Fells, UK. I have driven past the area before but never ventured to the mines of Caldbeck. I plan to go collecting in mid-November and I was just wondering whether anyone would be willing to give some advice as to where the best places (best mine dumps) to collect are or even what to look out for?

I intend to visit the Driggith Mine, Sandbeds Mine, Old Potts Gill Mine and Deer Hills Mine to go collecting. I know that these are quite desolate places so I just wanted to get some background information before I went if possible.

If anyone has some helpful information that they are willing to share, please either post below or PM me, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Matt. :-)

Hi Matt

To late to help you with your visit, but maybe next time.

I had a look in at Driggeth & Potts Ghyll a few years ago, mainly micros for interesting secondaries: linarite, bronchantite, posnjakite, schulenbergite, hemimorphite - a few photos on my page. Identification is not always easy too many greens & greenish blues. I tend to gather up a few specimens of colour and have a look under the microscope once I get home.

How did you get on?

Regards

David

Hi David,

I had a great time thanks, I found Linarite, Mimetite, Pyromorphite, Pyrite, possible Tennantite and I think some Oxyplumboroméite! Thanks for the help anyway :-)

Kind regards,

Matt. :-)
