GeneralFiler's Redlands California.

21st Apr 2014 02:28 UTCJon Mommers

I recently picked up a nice Elk Creek barite crystal which came with an old type written label from "Filer's" Redlands California. I was wondering if anyone knew of this mineral dealership or was it a collector ?

Perhaps this will help? http://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=581

As far as I know they are both still alive. They used to run Mineral of the Month Club and she was I think the first lady in the USA to graduate as a mining engineer.

They sold the business to Richard Sittinger and he has since sold it to someone else.

Jon,

If you are interested in looking, I have a couple of old Filer's catalogs and price lists from 1955 and '56 posted in my photo gallery. Go to Members Photo Galleries, scroll down to my name (charles creekmur), click on it then My Photos. Click "others" under What Photos to Show and look at pages 2 and 3. One of the catalogs has a picture of their shop on the cover.

Thank you Charles , now they are some lists I would like to do some shopping from. Great to see this information preserved and available to the wider collecting community
