For those of you who know Midwest minerals and collectors, I regret to inform you that long time Indiana field collector VERNON SWANSON, age 92, passed away on November 22 in Alexandria. Indiana.

Vern was one of the consummate Indiana mineral field collectors with many of his best mineral and geode finds now residing in private collections and museums including the Harvard Museum, Smithsonian and Indiana State Museum. Vern was present in about 1972 when the famous Harrodsburg roadcuts on Indiana route 37 were being widened to 4 lanes. He and a group of friends had a bonanza collecting high quality Indiana geodes including many with the best Midwest millerite ever found. He always had fun recalling this collecting episode as his group of collectors learned of the location where the blasted rock was being dumped and going thru all the dumped limestone recovering the geodes and mineral specimens. Vern will be missed by many here in Indiana and the Midwest. CHEERS......BOB
