Field CollectingQuartz locations in SE Oklahoma?

26th Sep 2022 00:29 UTCScott DeLano

Hello everyone…the family is going to be in Broken Bow /Hochatown area  in a couple of weeks.  We have a couple of teenagers that I think would enjoy hunting for quartz crystals. We don’t have time to run over to the Mt Ida area mines.  Anyone know of any hunting locations for the quartz crystals?  We aren’t looking for anything phenomenal…just something fun to find.  Any location spots guys?  Thank you for helping us out…I appreciate it!

Please don't post multiple threads on the same topic. I've deleted your duplicate thread. If no one replies to you the first time, it's simply possible no one has useful advice for you. You can also wait a couple of days or so, and if no one has replied, then reply to yourself with a "bump" to return this thread to the top of the queue. But don't go overboard with this option... ultimately if no one replies, then unfortunately no one has an answer for you.

Ask in Broken Bow of available collecting locales - not sure of current status.

Have you looked at the Rock & Minerals article about the site? Hydrothermal Quartz from McCurtain County, Oklahoma, by David London. R&M Vol. 92, Jan/Feb 2017.

One of our collection specimens says "along Glover River, across from Boy Scout Camp".
