GeneralFormat for Referencing the USGS MRDS?

26th Mar 2024 01:38 UTCBill Hamel 🌟

Does Mindat have a preferred  format when referencing the USGS’s Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS)?

I have looked at the Mindat manual, but I was unable to tell if there was  a preferred format for the MRDS.

And yes I know that the MRDS quality varies greatly, but sometimes it is the best I have.

Thanks in advance - Bill

On the individual locality pages, you can enter the MRDS info under the "Survey Type & ID Number" in External Database; is that what you were looking for?

I was mainly looking for a format to use when adding a locality to Mindat.

You just enter the number.  For instance, here's an MRDS link:
You enter 10195933 as Paul mentioned.

It will appear on the locality page as above (without the red outline).

Ok thanks!
