Just wanted to say :

The Type Locality for Hopeite is Altenberg in the Aachen zinc mining area, Germany , not Altenberg in Saxony, which is a Sn - Mining area

I deleted the Altenberg / Saxony entry. The mineral was in fact never found there.

The Altenberg near Aachen is situated in Belgium and was in the 19th century in a small country called "Neutral-Moresnet".

I'm not sure if the locality currently given as type locality "Vieille Montagne" is really a mine or a locality, because this was the name of the mining company which had several mines in Neutral-Moresnet and controlled more or less the small country.

Altenberg is now part of Kelmis / La Calamine.

I deleted parahopeite from Altenberg / Saxony too. The same as for hopeite, the locality was confused with Altenberg near Aachen.

It is interesting that Altenberg near Aachen plays a role in the description of kolbeckite. The mineral later described as kolbeckite was originally described on samples from Altenberg near Aachen in 1879. A few years later the author found that the samples were faked and the crystals were mounted with glue on specimens from Altenberg. He discredited his own description (he assumed now that the crystals are barite). The mineral was later described from Sadisdorf ( just 10 kilometers away from Altenberg / Saxony !).

The complete history of kolbeckite is a story of multiple descriptions and discreditations, wrong analyses and the mystery of the faked Altenberg samples.

The story you found at

http://tw.strahlen.org/typloc/kolbeckit.html

including a pdf-file of the original description (sorry, only in German).

Interesting story about Kolbeckite. I looked at the pictures and the last one in Italy is not listed as a locality for Kolbeckite, I think??

TL of Hopeite is Altenberg (Vieille Montagne in french), Moresnet, Liège Province, Belgium
