Improving Mindat.orglocation of Luobusa mine

14th Oct 2005 15:01 UTCErnst A.J. Burke

It is stated that the Luobusa mine in Tibet is located 300 km WSW of Lhasa, but in all papers authored by Chinese scientists the mine is located 200 km ESE of Lhasa. Any idea on the correct location?

As far as I know, the Luobusa UHP ophiolite deposit is situated 200 km east-southeast of Lhasa in the Indus-Yarlung Zangbo suture zone (southern Tibet).

I did just check it on a map provided by one of the references (page 2 of the article on www.episodes.org/backissues/252/090-94%20Hongkong.pdf). This places Luobusa (no chance to locate it with a map server, though) some 50 kms east of Nêdong (Zedong) and, in fact, roughly 250 km ESE of Lhasa.

The entry is fixed now.

Thanks Peter.

Ciao.
