Aug 2017Re: Visit to Altyn Tyube, KazakhstanReply from Dehne McLaughlin to an article.
DEar Jolyon and Katyan Thanks from Hobart for this report in August 2017. Am preparing a talk on copper minerals in my collection for our annual Mineral Society Seminar in south Australia. I often spend time with Sergi in Tucson as we both trade at Inn Suites and it was great to see him in his own ...

Hi Phill, this 2.5 cm across sherry topaz xtyl is one of the favourite specimens in my collection. Topaz for me is an enjoyable hang over from the 60s collecting of topaz in the Torrington area of NSW, Australia. Cheers Dehne

Sep 2013A scheelite from somewherePosted by Dehne McLaughlin in Identity Help.
I have no idea where this excellent collection piece of scheelite with albite and tourmaline came from. Scheelite xtyl is 4 cms across. I bought it with a Xueboading China label in Denver last week but experts say no way. Pakistan experts are cynical. Tae Wha? mm maybe not. Note how the ...

Jan 2011Re: Malachite, Azurite, Malbunka Copper mine,Reply from Dehne McLaughlin in General.
Appears to be some confusion over a number of specimen preparation issues for azurite suns on kaolin from the Malbunka Copper Mine. 1. The azurite suns are not glossed up-they do not have to be as most of them are so lustrous! I do sell duller ones though now and again. 2. The azurite suns ...
Oct 2010Re: Malbunka Copper MineReply from Dehne McLaughlin in Improving Mindat.org.
We could have an interesting debate about when is a mine a real mine. I suggest that the essential element of determining whether a mineral occurrence is a mine or only a prospect, is whether the mineral produced under a government tenement actually proves to be saleable, not whether it is turned ...
Oct 2010Re: Malbunka Copper MineReply from Dehne McLaughlin in Improving Mindat.org.
Dear Alfredo, thanks for your inquiry and I am pleased for the photo to be attached. I have not been internet active to the degree other collectors have so it is useful to have some prompts to "keep the story straight". An old Aranda saying. Cheers Dehne
Oct 2010Re: Malbunka Copper MineReply from Dehne McLaughlin in Improving Mindat.org.
In response to John Bett's message on the Malbunka Copper Mine, the previous mine name up to 2005 was "Namajtira prospect" (near Areyonga). However, this name was changed by the Western Aranda Malbunka clan and their relevant djungaiyi/kurtungkula (ie "managers") in 2005). The Malbunka land owning ...
