A synonym of Sillimanite
The name was first introduced by by H.M.T.Esmark for a white, radiating mineral found with quartz in granitic gneis at the Brekke Farm, Bamble, Telemark, Norway. The name was given after the area the mineral was found in, Bamble (Bamble was formerly spelled Bamle). It was described and analyzed by Erdmann (1842). The mineral was later descredited as a sillimanite with quartz inclusions.
