Description
The history of turquoise in New Mexico is vast, but these particular specimens offer their own unique story. The richness of the ore bodies in the Hanover Fierro District and adjacent Santa Rita District (best known for the Chino/Santa Rita Mine) are directly related to the intersection of three faults, one of which is the Barringer Fault. These unusual turquoise specimens were collected from the Barringer Fault - voids along the fault allowed room for the precipitation of late stage turquoise which was gouged as movement along the fault continued. Thus, these turquoise specimens show the typical textures associated with fault gouging.
