“This agate was found as a sea rolled "Scotch pebble" near the high water mark on the shore between Mains of Usan and the blowhole. I have described this kind of agate as an "atoll agate" due to the pattern of its banding. This simile likens the quartz to the sea and the agate to the land of an island. Peter Rodgers coined the term "island agate" using the same imagery. This specimen has unusual colouring for the area. It measures 5.6cm x 4.0cm x 4.3cm. The specimen has an interesting sculptured back resembling the impression left by thumb-prints in a soft material. ”
