“A huge smoky amethyst cluster from a new find on Odin Mountain in the Revelstoke Mining District of British Columbia, Canada! Collected by Herb Hyder in mid-2015, this pocket produced some of the finest smoky amethyst, not only in B.C., but in all of Canada! Herb had to hike these huge specimens many miles, through rugged wilderness, to bring these beauties to the mineral community. This specimen took him several days took recover! This large grouping of jet black smoky quartz exhibits secondary skeletal growth faces of both smoky quartz and amethyst. The overgrowths exhibit a wet luster and high transparency, giving the specimen a dramatic appeal. The amethyst is concentrated toward the terminal ends of the larger crystals. The color is an interesting purple hue that is unlike most amethyst I am familiar with. An outstanding, museum quality, smoky amethyst from an obscure North American locality! 24.5 x 22.5 x 16.3 cm. Blake Barnett photo and specimen.”
