A cluster/stack of platy deanesmithite crystals in a quartz crystal lined vug. The crystals show the characteristic deep internal red reflections and sub-metallic brown surface tarnish; although these features were not well captured due to the use of flash illumination to make the photograph. Also associated are small droplets of mercury tarnished to a golden color. S418-074a N3946N Specimen found in a Dakota Matrix Mineral "microbag" - thanks, Tom!

A cluster of tarnishing deanesmithite crystals deep inside of a quartz crystal lined vug. The crystals show the characteristic deep internal red reflections and sub-metallic brown surface tarnish. Also associated are small droplets of mercury tarnished to a golden color. I am not certain what the glassy transparent green is, could be opal/chalcedony. S418-074 N3946N Specimen found in a Dakota Matrix Mineral microbag. Thanks Tom!

Rough spherical mass of crystalline edgarbaileyite showing crystal terminations, with quartz and cinnabar. Not shown, also present in the same vug are mercury and deanesmithite. S418-076a N3946N 0.3 cm sphere. Specimen is from a Dakota Matrix Mineral microbag, originally from the Gerald and Venice Jungles collection. They collected this most likely in the 1970's or 80's.

Nestled deep inside this quartz vug, covered by a mm-thick shell of edgarbaileyite, is this little, 0.1 cm, sphere of altering mercury. The green crust is likely edgarbaileyite as well, deanesmithite is also present in the same vug. Overall view of specimen, the deanesmithite is in the dark vug just to the left of the mustard-yellow edgarbaileyite sphere.
