The crystal is doubly terminated but some of the faces have been polished to show the cinnabar crystal to best advantage. When not strongly back lit as in this picture, the cinnabar crystal does not look nearly so red and transparent.”

This image is not back lighted but the white paper that the specimen was on when the picture was taken might have bounced some of the overhead light up through the crystal. The bar at the bottom of the image is an inch with a rule at one cm.”
