“This transparent crystal has highly lustrous faces, as seen in the reflection at the top of the photo. The reflection below is from an internal fracture. There are numerous, microscopic, oriented cavities, a number of which are crystal shaped. It exhibits color zoning/blending of quartz and amethyst seen in many crystals from the location. Collected by then property owner, the late Mr. Charlie Schaar, in 1962.
Gifted to me, from the collection of Tim Bryant.
This occurrence was documented by Dietrich in "Minerals of Virginia, 1990", and
"Virginia Minerals, Vol. 38 No. 5, Commonwealth of Virginia, Dept. of Mines, Minerals, and Energy,
Richmond, VA, 1992”
