Brazilianite

Chandlers Mill Quarry, Newport, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, USA

6.2 x 4.6 x 4.0 cm Brazilianite is obviously best known from Brazil, but several localities in New England have also produced specimens of this well known phosphate. This piece features small, sharp, lustrous pale yellow-green crystals of Brazilianite on pegmatite matrix. It's amazing to think that this locality started producing in the 1860s ...

Brazilianite

Chandlers Mill Quarry, Newport, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, USA

A light greenish-yellow opaque brazilianite on a feldspar matrix pedestal. The brazilianite is complete, with blocky crystallization and modest luster. Not very exciting if this was a Brazilian brazilianite but quite nice for an **American** brazilianite. Specimen dimensions: 4.8 x 3.8 x 2.6 cm (1.9 x 1.5 x 1.0 inches)
