Almandine-Spessartine Series

Frøyså 01 Feldspar Quarry, Frøyså, Iveland, Agder, Norway

Like most the garnets from the primery pegmatites in the Evje-Iveland district the composition of this garnet lies within the spessartine area, but with a quite large almandine component. This group shows some crystals with well developed terminations and some crystals where other, now gone, crystals has restricted growth. These crystals are ...

Almandine-Spessartine Series, Pyrite

Frøyså 01 Feldspar Quarry, Frøyså, Iveland, Agder, Norway

This, I think is a rather interesting specimen with two cubic minerals (garnet and pyrtite) developed within a biotite book. Both of them are severly flattened, the garnet some 3,5cm wide, but only a few mm thick. Both the garnet and the pyrite show a multitude of crystal phases on the wide axis, but only the garnet has kept the outer shape of a ...

Monazite-(Ce)

Frøyså 01 Feldspar Quarry, Frøyså, Iveland, Agder, Norway

This Monazite-(Ce)is damaged and repaired and just less than 3 cm. This monazite has not been analysed. Both monazite-(Ce) and monazite-(La) has been identified from the general Evje/Iveland area. La dominant monazite has only been identified from two quarries in the area, but the vast majority of the analyzed monazites has been Ce dominant, ...

Frøyså 01 Feldspar Quarry, Frøyså, Iveland, Agder, Norway

A microcline crystal embedded in quartz in the quarry wall. The crystal is about half a metre tall.

Quarry entrance

Frøyså 01 Feldspar Quarry, Frøyså, Iveland, Agder, Norway

A short tunnel has been made to ease the entrance to the quarry. The tunnel is about 50m long, and the main work has been done in the extention of and to the right of the tunnel. Most mine dump has been carried away and used for road construction

Through the tunnel towards the mine dump

Frøyså 01 Feldspar Quarry, Frøyså, Iveland, Agder, Norway

The main mine dump is to the right of the tunnel exit. The loose material seen on this photo is probably no more than 1/2-1m deep. Not a lot of material is left here, as most has been used for road construction
