Johs Nilsens Quarry, Tvedalen, Larvik, Vestfold, NorwayDimensions: 40 mm x 30 mm x 30 mm
A specimen found in a dump at Johs Nilsen larvikite quarry, Tvedalen, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway.
A crust of brownish, small heulandite crystals is seen in the middle of the specimen. Identity confirmed at NHM, Oslo, January 2019. The sample analysed showed a significant content of Ca, thus it is probably heulandite-Ca.
Analysis of the tube-like mineral showed it to consist of clinoptilolite, also with a significant content of Ca (Possible clinoptilolite-Ca?). The strange tube-structure may possible be a pseudomorph ?
This is the first report on a find of clinoptilolite from the Larvik Plutonic Complex.
