Located north of Hughendon near the Blackbraes National Park. Peridot diggings in Cainozoic basalt. Gemstones were discovered in the area in the 1920's however little is known of this early activity. Interest was revived by amateur fossickers in the 1970's and a small area was set aside for commercial mining in 1988. Public fossicking and camping was allowed by the land owners.

The diggings are located on the eastern slopes of a basaltic cone. Detrital gem peridot occurs in the hillslope deposits as sub-angular fragments with a brown surface patina and internal yellow-green to deep-green colour. Tumbling or grinding the surfaces of the grains allows the clarity and colour to be inspected. Euhedral crystals are present but rare.

Also present as detrital fragments/crystals are black spinel (pleonaste), rare sapphire, zircon and anorthoclase (moonstone).

When fossicking it is best to use hand tools, dry sieving and digging to a depth of about 40cm.
